Ever since the great Star Trek reboot of 2009, the beloved sci-fi franchise has seen a shift in tone: Where the TV series liked to raise philosophical questions in almost every episode, the rebooted movies have become synonymous with action-packed set pieces.
Sure, tech like Google Translate is getting us a few steps closer to the goal, but we still have a long way to go before before we have a legit Star Trek universal communicator. But the U.S. Air Force apparently wants to get us there.
