Today marks the 25th Anniversary of Stark Trek: The Next Generation's pilot, Encounter at Farpoint, premiere. That's 25 years since Picard stared out into the great and infinite vastness of space and said "Let's see what's out there." To celebrate, here's 25 things you might not know about the seminal series.
One of the many, many reasons we love sci-fi and fantasy so much is watching our favorite heroes (and villains) kick ass with awesome weapons—but sometimes (and the holidays is one of those times)—just watching it happen isn't enough. Sometimes you want a mythic sword or high-tech blaster of your very own, and a plastic knock-off from the toy store just won't do.
Part of the horrific appeal of the whole zombie thing is that it can happen to anyone. Your wife, your kids, your grandma, even that guy you buy coffee from, they can all shift from friendly humans to rotting, flesh-hungry undead in a matter of minutes, and suddenly it's shotgun time. (Aim for the head, kids.) So it's no surprise that the whole "no one is safe" thing has spread to the realm of fictional characters.
