One of the most anticipated bits of Peter Jackson's Hobbit trilogy has been the epic dragon Smaug, which J.R.R. Tolkien fans have been dying to see on the big screen for decades. Now we have our first glimpse at the mighty creature in action.

Ever since we learned that we're getting three Hobbit films instead of two, we've been wondering just how Peter Jackson might fit everything together. Given that film two is subtitled The Desolation of Smaug, we assumed the big bad dragon wouldn't show up until then, but according to Jackson, we'll get to glimpse him this December.

We knew Peter Jackson's now-trilogy based on J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit would feature the famed dragon Smaug, played by Benedict Cumberbatch, but what we didn't know is when we might meet him. Now it seems Cumberbatch may have let Jackson's scheme slip.
