The author of The Magicians—which has been described, rightly or wrongly, as "Harry Potter with alcohol and sex"—is a little tired of the way some, even most characters in fantasy novels carry themselves. They never seem to exhibit the same weaknesses as average folks. So here's a bit of a course correction from him.
This TV season, fairytale-themed shows could potentially be the taste du jour, with ABC's Once Upon a Time and NBC's Grimm both set to air shortly. Continuing with that momentum, Fox has picked up popular book series, The Magicians, by Lev Grossman for next season, and at least one, huge nerd is already game to be in it—Wil Wheaton.
