Whedon is looking to dig deeper into the Marvel universe with Avengers 2, and has opened up about how two new additions (and a founding member) will fit.
After Marvel pulled back the curtain on the real intergalactic threat with that post-credit scene in The Avengers, fans assumed we’d be seeing more of a certain god-like baddie soon.
You just know that we're getting at least one new Avenger by the time Avengers 2 blasts into theaters, but could we see them sooner than Joss Whedon's sequel? Word on the street is that, just like Iron Man 2, Iron Man 3 will take some time to introduce another member of Earth's Mightiest Heroes. But who?
The buzz has been mounting ever since some apparently kick-ass test footage was shown off at Comic-Con, and now we finally know when we'll get to see Marvel's Ant-Man on the big screen for ourselves.
So far, Lizzy Caplan's role at Marvel is small compared to Earth's Mightiest Heroes. She's the star of the Avengers-related short film Item 47, playing a mere mortal who finds herself in an extraordinary situation, but could she be more? Nothing's official, but Caplan seems to be hinting that superheroics may be in her future.
It may be three years away, but ever since we learned that Joss Whedon will indeed return to write and direct the sequel to his superblockbuster The Avengers (and put in some work on the rest of the Marvel Universe along the way), we've been wondering just how Avengers 2 will shape up.
We're still rejoicing at the news that Joss Whedon will return to write and direct the sequel to his megahit The Avengers (and do a little Marvel TV work along the way). But cool as that news is, it's apparently just the beginning of what Marvel's got in store for Whedon.
