With Square Enix announcing this morning that Final Fantasy XV’s release would be delayed two months from Sept. 30 to Nov. 29, I think we need all the Final Fantasy goodness we can get. So here are the first twelve minutes for Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV.
The CGI movie starring Lena Headey as Princess Luna, Sean Bean as King Regis and Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul as a soldier named Nyx, serves as a prequel to the video game. The fantasy movie will be released in select theaters on Aug. 19 being available in the PlayStation store at the end of the month (Aug. 30). At least, that’s still the plan. You’ll have to wait until Oct. 4 before getting your hand on a Blu-ray or DVD copy.
The first twelve minutes do a solid job of introducing us to the kingdom of Lucis (thanks to an opening monologue from Lena Headey) and the menacing forces of Niflheim. As you can see, magic and technology go hand in hand in the movie. There’s a lot to take in, from the beautifully rendered CGI animation to the amazing creatures and the kickass action. So, dig in!
The magical kingdom of Lucis is home to the world’s last remaining Crystal, and the menacing empire of Niflheim is determined to steal it. King Regis of Lucis commands an elite force of soldiers called the Kingsglaive. Wielding their king’s magic, they fight to protect Lucis. As the overwhelming military might of the empire bears down, King Regis is faced with an impossible ultimatum – to marry his son, Prince Noctis to Princess Lunafreya of Tenebrae, captive of Niflheim, and surrender his lands to Niflheim rule. Although the king concedes, it becomes clear that the empire will stop at nothing to achieve their devious goals, with only the Kingsglaive standing between them and world domination.
