All Out War
Oh, boy, this is going to be a fun one. This arc (“All Out War,” Issues 115-126) represents one of the most ambitious stories ever attempted in the decade-old comic series. It basically finds Alexandria and a rag-tag army of other cities, led by Rick, facing off against Negan and The Saviors. It’s a brutal war that lasts for several battles, and essentially serves as a dueling war of ideals over what shape the new world will take. Who doesn’t want to see that play out in live action? Rick wants a peaceful world where everyone can work together and start to rebuild society. In his own, twisted way, Negan kind of wants the same thing — only he wants to do it with the heel of his boot and pointy end of his trademark baseball bat.
Not surprisingly, the arc was compelling, and the fallout has informed everything that has come since in the comic. Much like introducing these new cities, the effects of this war had a lasting impact on the story Kirkman is telling.
