Thanks to the Comics Code and decency and all that stuff, Catwoman sat out most of the '50s and '60s, her appearance in comics considered too salacious for impressionable young minds. The show defiantly reintroduced her in the form of the salacious Julie Newmar, who stars in some the series's best episodes. When Newmar was obligated to another project between seasons, former Miss America Lee Meriweather stepped into her slinky suit for the 1966 Batman movie, which suffered for the switch. Mark our words: Had Newmar been able to reprise her duplicitous role as Catwoman and Miss Kitka, the Russian-reporter-with-a-secret who steals Bruce Wayne's heart, the film would today be considered a classic. Catwoman inexplicably changed races when portrayed by Eartha Kitt in the show's third season, and strangely enough, the Internet didn't have much to say about it. Whether you prefer chocolate or vanilla, the show's version remains the model for all Catwomen to come.
