Verhoeven's Wife Saves Script
Director Paul Verhoeven is given the most credit for giving RoboCop a poignant combination of ultraviolence, philosophy, and satire, but he wouldn't have directed the film if not for his wife. After reading what he thought to be a run-of-the-mill action movie, Paul Verhoeven initially threw the script away in disgust. Alex Cox was brought into direct, after he helmed the successful film Repo Man. Ironically, it was Verhoeven's wife who repo'ed the script from their trash can, read it, and convinced her husband it was much deeper than noticeable at first glance.
