One of the most highly anticipated new TV series of 2017, Bryan Fuller’s adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s American Gods is slated to premiere at the end of the month. To whet our appetite for the brewing conflict between the Old Gods and the New Gods in less than two weeks, Starz has released a new clip and some cool character promos.
First things first: the clip (via Nerdist) features Low-Key Lyesmith (Jonathan Tucker) trying to impart some wise words of wisdom to our hero, Shadow Moon (The 100’s Ricky Whittle), about (ahem) not angering women working in airports.
The cable network has also unveiled six character promos accompanied by short bios, and I’ve included them below for a quick perusal. The 10-episode TV series also stars Crispin Glover as Mr. World, Orlando Jones as Mr. Nancy, Bruce Langley as Technical Boy, Cloris Leachman as Zorya Vechernyaya, Kristin Chenoweth as Easter, Gillian Anderson as Media, Corbin Bernsen as Vulcan, Demore Barnes as Mr. Ibis and Jeremy Davies as Jesus Christ.
Mr. Wednesday (Ian McShane): “Mr. Wednesday is a crafty and endlessly charismatic con man, is full of perverse wisdom, curious magic, and grand plans to unite the Old Gods in a battle for power against the New Gods.”
Shadow Moon (Ricky Whittle): “Shadow is released from prison to a life turned upside down — no wife, no job, and no bearings.”
Mad Sweeney (Pablo Schreiber): “Mad Sweeney is a down-on-his-luck leprechaun, having a hard time understanding how he lost his charm and way.”
Laura Moon (Emily Browning): “Laura Moon is Shadow Moon’s ethereal wife. She dies unexpectedly just before Shadow’s release from prison. Little does she know that her untimely death will lead her to an epiphany about her relationship and afford her a second chance to make amends.”
Bilquis (Yetide Badaki): “Bilquis, an ancient goddess of love who craves the worship she inspired in eras long ago, is eager to find that same relevance in today’s world.”
Czernobog (Peter Stormare): “A Slavic god of darkness and evil, Czernobog, is reluctant to join the coming war, wary of Mr. Wednesday’s motivations.”
American Gods will premiere on April 30 on Starz. Are you looking forward to the new series?
