Platinum Dunes' new Friday the 13th reboot from The Crazies director Breck Eisner is expected to stalk theaters this October, but to satisfy your current hunger for Jason and his bloody antics, here's a trailer for a new Friday the 13th fan film called Never Hike Alone, featuring plenty of creepy Crystal Lake chaos.
This 22-minute short, set to make a splash this summer, is directed by Vincente DiSanti, using found-footage and archival news clip techniques to trail an exprienced hiker, Kyle McLeod (Andrew Leighty), into the back country, where he accidentally stumbles across the derelict buildings of Camp Crystal Lake and sets out to explore the grounds where the infamous 1980 slayings took place.
Here's more of the official synopsis:
Kyle's innocent search of the camp turns deadly when he is attacked by Camp Crystal Lake's last remaining resident, JASON VOORHEES. Stranded alone in the middle of the wilderness with a legendary mass murderer on his heels, Kyle's survival skills will be put to the test like never before. Will he make it out of the woods alive or become another victim of the cursed camp?
The story of Never Hike Alone is one of man vs. nature in the most extreme way. Taking inspiration from films such as The Descent, 127 Hours, and The Martian, this film takes the fear of extreme isolation and shines it through a lens of the Friday the 13th universe.
The enterprising filmmakers at Womp Stomp Films are seeking funds to complete the post-production work on Never Hike Alone. Their Kickstarter campaign has already raised more than $8,100 toward a $13, 000 goal and can be accessed here if you'd like to contribute to the cause.
Have a look, but don't linger in these haunted woods for long!
