With Supergirl joining the lineup, we already knew The CW’s big crossover episode would span a mind-boggling four shows this year. Now we finally know who the small-screen Justice League will be taking on.
The network has confirmed the DC Comics alien race The Dominators will be the main villain of the four-way crossover, with the invaders vexing heroes across every DC show. The aliens are based on the Dominion race from the DC Comics arc Invasion! In that story, they’re portrayed as a technologically advanced race with a major interest in the genetic potential of the human race (especially metahumans). So yeah … it sounds like our heroes could be facing a legit alien invasion.
Here’s an excerpt from what producer Marc Guggenheim told The Hollywood Reporter about the event, which sounds crazy ambitious:
"We’re taking inspiration from a DC crossover from the late 1980s known as Invasion!, which featured an alien race called The Dominators, who’d previously vexed the Legion of Superheroes. We’re using cutting-edge prosthetics and computer effects to achieve a feature film-quality look which is faithful to Invasion! artist Todd McFarlane’s interpretation of the characters.”
This certainly seems to be setting up one of the biggest stories ever conceived for the small screen, especially considering it’ll span four different shows. It also begs the question … exactly how will Supergirl be involved, considering she’s technically in another universe (hmm, could those Flashpoint rumors be true?).
The Flash premieres Oct. 4, Arrow premieres Oct. 5, Supergirl premieres Oct. 10, and Legends of Tomorrow premieres Oct. 13. All on The CW.
