The Magicians author Lev Grossman writing post-Camelot King Arthur novel

The man who wrote the books behind Syfy’s hit dark fantasy series The Magicians is back at the laptop — but this time he’s turned his sights on King Arthur’s legend.

The Washington Post reports Lev Grossman’s new book is titled The Bright Sword, which will focus on the aftermath of King Arthur and Camelot. The book will kick off with the fall of Camelot and tell the stories of the knights “following in the wake” of King Arthur, Lancelot and his legendary knights of the round table.

As for exactly what his approach will be, Grossman said he views King Arthur’s era as a “strangely powerful lens” for turning an eye toward “the way we live now” in the present. It’s a fascinating premise, to be sure, and Grossman certainly has the chops to weave it into a cool tale.

Of course, Grossman’s claim to fame is The Magicians, The Magician King and The Magician’s Land trilogy. The second season of the TV adaptation premieres in early 2017 on Syfy.

The Bright Sword will be published by Viking. No release date has been set.
