Swim toward this stirring new trailer for Studio Ghibli's survival fable, The Red Turtle

Japan's Studio Ghibli has blessed animated fans with some truly memorable anime classics, like Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle and Princess Mononoke.  Check out this intriguing new trailer for their latest offering, The Red Turtle, depicting a castaway man's difficult and delightful days of isolation on a deserted island.

Directed by Dutch-British animator Michaël Dudok de Wit, the lyrical animated feature is entirely devoid of dialogue and captured audiences' hearts at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival, where it took home the Un Certain Regard – Special Prize.   Sony Pictures Classics has picked up international distribution rights following its celebrated film festival run and will release The Red Turtle in America on Jan. 20, 2017.  The movie it immediately brings to mind is The Life of Pi, with it operating on two intemingling planes of reality and its gentle meditations on life, but without knowing precisely how the plot unfolds it could tread into completely different existential waters.

Here's the official synopsis for this enchanting animated adventure:

Through the story of a man shipwrecked on a tropical island inhabited by turtles, crabs and birds, The Red Turtle recounts the milestones in the life of a human being.
