DC's Legends of Tomorrow to feature more than one version of JSA member Obsidian

Looks like Legends of Tomorrow will feature more than one version of DC Comics superhero Obsidian.

Just last month, it was announced that legendary actor Lance Henriksen (Aliens, Pumpkinhead, Millennium) had been cast in the role. Fans were excited about the casting of the genre vet, but they were also puzzled by the fact that they would cast a much older actor for the part. That’s because Henriksen will play a future version of Obsidian.

According to a report over at TV Line, Dan Payne (Strange Empire) has been cast as the younger version of the Justice Society of America team member. This is the version that the crew of the Waverider will first encounter when the show returns for Season 2.

In the comics, Obsidian was the son of Golden Age Green Lantern Alan Scott and first appeared in the pages of All-Star Squadron #25 back in 1983, ultimately joining the Justice Society in 2007. The character created by Roy Thomas and Jerry Ordway could merge with his own shadow as well as possess the shadows of others. When in shadow form, Obsidian also possesses super strength and can pass through solid objects and fly.

DC's Legends of Tomorrow will return on Oct. 13 on The CW.
