The weird and wonderful city of Portland, Oregon, is fast becoming a mini-Mecca for comic book fans, writers, artists ,and publishers, with an enviable array of talent residing or doing business in the heart of the Rose City and its evergreen suburbs. Image Comics has recently announced its relocation to Portland, joining fellow residents Oni Press, the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund and out-of-town neighbors Dark Horse Comics.
Capitalizing on this budding growth is the Rose City Comic Con, which held its fifth annual convention last weekend and attracted a record crowd to its mighty two-day pop culture congregation. This independently run geek pageant is the perfect harmony of funny book dealers, toys, games, shirts, comic creators, TV and movie celebrities, video game developers and popular voice actors all wrapped up in a whirlwind event that feels genuinely hometown and intimate, something missing from many larger corporate mega-cons.
Stay tuned for our exclusive interviews with Chad Coleman (The Walking Dead, The Expanse, Arrow), comic artist Dustin Nguyen (Descender, Batman: Li'l Gotham) and comic writer David Walker (Power Man and Iron Fist, Tarzan on the Planet of the Apes).
Until then, immerse yourself in this colorful riot of crazy cosplay creations from the Rose City Comic Con, showing fairies eating froyo, walkers wolfing down pizza slices, a plethora of Poison Ivys, a bounty of Batmans, dozens of Deadpools, a hurricane of Harley Quinns, plenty of Power Rangers and one gregarious gorilla preacher.
