Check out this engaging assortment of sci-fi posters from a new Craig Drake solo art show at the Hero Complex Gallery in Los Angeles. Drake tackled a dozen iconic Hollywood properties and gave his own artistic twist to our favorite geek flick characters, like Ripley, Venkman, Leeloo, Rachael, Furiosa, Ava, Jack Torrance and more.
There's even room for the ECTO-1 and Batmobile to join the party! The San Francisco-based artist has taken on legendary pop culture targets before, including Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Akira, Escape From New York, Indiana Jones and Buffy The Vampire Slayer. His smooth, precise linework and swirling minimalist style hearken back to classic '80s poster art and album covers by modern painters like Patrick Nagel.
“The ability to express a shared love for films and characters we all cannot get enough of is what it’s all about,” said Drake “Also to put our little art scene and community of fans and collectors on the map as a very real movement in pop art. A movement I see studios vetting and supporting more and more. When all’s complete, it’s like a weekend of geeking out with my people. I cannot wait.”
The Craig Drake Solo III exhibition opened on Sept. 10 and featured themed lighting and music to enhance the visual experience. These artworks inspired by The Shining, Scott Pilgrim, A Clockwork Orange, Alien, Big Trouble in Little China, The Fifth Element, Ghostbusters, Mad Max: Fury Road, Ex Machina, Batman and Blade Runner are available for purchase as original works as well as illuminated and foil variants.
