TV THIS WEEK: A Walking Dead preview special, Outcast's finale, and more!

Summer TV is quiet every year, but this year new shows are particularly scarce thanks to a presidential election and the Summer Olympics. That doesn't mean we're all out of genre TV, though. This week we get the season finale of Outcast, a Walking Dead preview special, a Star Trek 50th anniversary documentary, and more.

Check out the week in TV below. What's on your watchlist?

Outcast (MAX) Friday, 10 p.m. - "This Little Light"

Season finale! - Robert Kirkman's TV empire remains strong. The Walking Dead is just as popular as ever, Fear the Walking Dead is building momentum for its return, and then there's Outcast, his demonic possession series free from the constraints of basic cable. The show's audience is tiny compared to both of Kirkman's zombie series, but it's doing fairly well for a Cinemax show, and a strong international presence is helping that along. Cinemax was so confident in Outcast's staying power that they renewed it for a second season months before the first even aired, so if you're a fan, know that you've already got more demonic fun on the way. This week, Reverend Anderson does everything he can to rid the town of the devil. Check out a preview below.

50 Years of Star Trek (History) Sunday, 8 p.m.

Documentary special! - As you may have heard by now (you know, several dozen times), this year marks the 50th anniversary of the debut of Star Trek, arguably the most influential science fiction franchise of all time, and fans and creators alike are celebrating in a number of ways. We've got a new movie, a new TV series on the way, comic books, special convention presentations, and much more. We've also got this two-hour documentary special looking back on the history of the series with the help from Trek alums like Jonathan Frakes, Nichelle Nichols, J.J. Abrams, Bryan Fuller and more. Oh, and have some tissues handy, because the special will also feature one of the final interviews ever given by the late, great Leonard Nimoy.

The Walking Dead (AMC) Sunday, 10 p.m. - "Season 7 Preview Special"

Special episode! - We still have more than two months to wait until The Walking Dead is back with more zombie mayhem, but AMC isn't letting that time pass without teasing us just a little more. This Sunday Talking Dead host Chris Hardwick and a few special guests will offer up an hourlong preview special featuring behind-the-scenes footage and cast interviews to give us a taste of what's in store for Season 7 when it lands in October. If we're lucky, we might even get some new footage, but don't expect to find out who caught the business end of Lucille just yet.
