TV THIS WEEK: The Strain is back, Halt and Catch Fire returns, and more!

We're still recovering from the Olympics, but there are some fun premieres to look forward to. This week, we get the return of The Strain and Halt and Catch Fire, plus more Steven UniverseThe Last Ship, and more!

Check out the week in TV below. What's on your watchlist?

Halt and Catch Fire (AMC) Tuesday, 9 p.m. - "Valley of the Heart's Delight" and "One Way or Another"

Season premiere! - Halt and Catch Fire is not what we'd typically consider a genre series, unless you really want to see it as a kind of alternate history of the 1980s tech frontier. Still, it's one of those shows that fills our summer void, and every season seems to garner more and more critical acclaim. This week, the show returns as its characters stand on a precipice. Gaming was king last season, but now chat might be the next big thing, and it could all converge into a powerful metaphor for how we interact online now, 25 years ago. Check out a preview below.

The Last Ship (TNT) Sunday, 9 p.m. - "Legacy"

The Last Ship was renewed for a fourth season just a couple of a weeks ago, and its continued success is a reflection of where so many cable series are winning these days: post-live viewing. If you look at the show's live numbers, the series -- on of cable's hottest in the year it debuted -- has declined by nearly half. If you look at the Live + 3 numbers, though, the viewership nearly doubles. Viewers haven't necessarily abandoned The Last Ship. They just might be watching a little later, and that's why we'll keeping seeing this series.

The Strain (FX) Sunday, 10 p.m. - "New York Strong"

Season premiere! - The Strain is back this week, and the landscape of its human vs. vampire war continues to evolve. One of the most interesting things about this series has been watching how its viral war has enveloped New York City, changed the game, and refused to bow to the usual rules of the outbreak thriller. Now we get to see just how intense things can get. Check out a preview below.
