Fans of Teen Titans Go! are well aware of its free-form approach and experimental storytelling, allowing the show to go to areas that many other series cannot approach. Most of the series can be categorized into handful of categories, like food, holiday, H.I.V.E. Five and music episodes, among others. So serial episodes are typically hard to come by. We’ve gotten a few recurring storylines, or details about each character that build off of previous adventures, but hardly anything that constitutes a true story arc.
So, beginning today, Teen Titans Go! meets Cast Away as new serialized episodes Monday through Friday with their five-part "Island Adventures Special." That special again is a five-part tour ... a five-part tour ...
Part 1: Coconut Creme Pie
Part 2: Pure Protein
Part 3: Open Door Policy
Part 4: Crazy Desire Island
Part 5: The Titans Show
Expect the tropical setting and problem of being stranded to present new challenges to the team as far as satisfying their hunger, finding ways to combat boredom and being one with nature. Don't be surprised if there are spoofs on Survivor, Gilligan's Island, Lost and many other stranded-on-an-island tropes. Considering how much the team enjoy their creature comforts, hilarity is sure to ensue.
At San Diego Comic-Con, I spoke with Teen Titans Go! producer Aaron Horvath and director Peter Michail, along with cast members Scott Menville (Robin), Greg Cipes (Beast Boy), Tara Strong (Raven) and Khary Payton (Cyborg) to talk about the big week-long special airing Aug. 1-5 at 6:00/5:00c on Cartoon Network.
