Legendary to adapt Square Enix's award-winning video game Life is Strange

Legendary Digital Studios and Square Enix are coming together to adapt Life Is Strange, the award-winning episodic video game from the Japanese gaming giant.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie will be developed and produced with Dmitri Johnson and Dan Jevons of dj2 Entertainment (the animated Skulls of the Shogun, Sony Pictures’ upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog movie). If you're a gaming enthusiast, then you probably already know that Life Is Strange is the winner of 75 Game of the Year awards and listings, including a BAFTA (best story), a Peabody Award, Golden Joystick's Performance of the Year and the Game Awards Games for Impact Award. Pretty impressive, eh?

In case you're wondering what Life Is Strange is about, here’s a description:

The video game is episodic in nature and follows the story of photography enthusiast Max Caulfield, a high-school senior who discovers she can rewind time while saving her best friend Chloe Price. The pair soon find themselves investigating the mysterious disappearance of fellow student Rachel Amber, which uncovers a dark side to life in their town, Arcadia Bay.

Legendary’s Cory Lanier (who brought it in) will spearhead the project along with Greg Siegel, Senior VP Development and Production for Legendary Digital Studios. The studio will soon be on the hunt for a writer and director. Siegel said: “Life Is Strange really differs from what people think of gaming. Because there’s such a focus on character, there’s an emotional connection to the story that doesn’t happen with other games.”

According to THR, the reason Life Is Strange appealed to Legendary in the first place is that the storyline features a female lead with a story that’s anchored in the real world, boasts a high-school setting and deals with the idea that there are consequences to one’s actions.
