The high-flying deep-space sequel Star Trek Beyond opens this weekend, and we caught up with Capt. Kirk himself to talk about how things have changed three films into the new series.
Chris Pine, who plays the young version of Kirk in the franchise, opened up about how his character has grown since he was first introduced as a brash young cadet in 2009’s Star Trek. It’s fascinating to think, but three films in, we’re finally reaching the point of about where the crew would be in The Original Series (confusing timeline changes be damned).
Here’s one excerpt from his comments:
“I think he’s just quieter and probably less of a pain in the a**, and allows other people the space to do their thing. I like the first 10 minutes of this film, they’re probably my favorite, just quiet and introspective. Everything seems a little off, and the crew is getting a little older and dealing with real problems.”
