It started out as a very freaky viral short, and now filmmaker David F. Sandberg has taken those creepy few minutes and turned them into a bona fide horror flick.
Two new clips from Lights Out have been released, showing some scary stuff lurking in the dark. It’s your basic jump-scare premise, but man, does he not pull it off well. The story follows a family being affected by a terrifying entity that lurks in the dark. The project comes under the Blumhouse banner, with a script written by Eric A. Heisserer’s (The Thing, A Nightmare on Elm Street).
Here’s the film’s official synopsis:
When Rebecca left home, she thought she left her childhood fears behind. Growing up, she was never really sure of what was and wasn’t real when the lights went out…and now her little brother, Martin, is experiencing the same unexplained and terrifying events that had once tested her sanity and threatened her safety. A frightening entity with a mysterious attachment to their mother, Sophie, has reemerged.
Lights Out is set to open July 22.
