TV THIS WEEK: The Last Ship returns, a Norman Reedus docuseries, and more!

We're still in that awkward midway point between the end of our spring shows and the start of our summer shows, and this week is dominated by things like the NBA Finals and the Tony Awards, but that doesn't mean we have nothing to watch. This Sunday, The Last Ship is back for its third season, Norman Reedus debuts a new travel show, and more.

Check out the week in TV below. What's on your watchlist?

12 Monkeys (Syfy) Monday, 9 p.m. - "Lullaby"

12 Monkeys emerged last season as one of the most critically acclaimed genre dramas to emerge on basic cable, so a second season seemed only natural. Now, we know that critics love it, and we know that its fanbase is concentrated, but we still have to wait and see if Season 3 is in the cards. While last season's episodes consistently clocked in more than half a million live viewers, this season has yet to break that mark. Does that mean the show is done? Of course not. Cable shows can survive on a leaner viewership, particularly if fans pick the show up in the days and weeks following its first broadcast. 12 Monkeys is not where it stood this time last year, but I'd say it's far from toppling. Check out a preview for this week below.

Wayward Pines (FOX) Wednesday, 9 p.m. - "Once Upon a Time in Wayward Pines"

Last spring, Wayward Pines emerged as a breakout midseason hit for a network that definitely needed one, propelling Fox to a great summer event success that guaranteed a second season for the show. Now Season 2 is here, and we have to see if it can have the same impact. So far, while the numbers aren't shabby, it definitely hasn't. The season premiere arrived to a series low in live viewers, and while this is a series that's always thrived on viewers who watch the show on streaming services or through DVR recordings, that could spell a drop in overall interest. Now, that certainly doesn't mean Wayward Pines is over, but a shift is definitely taking place. We'll just have to wait and see how many people keep picking the show up in the days and weeks after it's aired. This week, it's time for some flashbacks. Check out a preview below.

Outlander (Starz) Saturday, 9 p.m. - "Prestonpans"

Last season, Outlander debuted with fewer than 1 million live viewers but quickly grew a devoted fanbase that led to a renewal from Starz. This season, the show has yet to drop below the 1 million live viewer mark, and that's not including DVR viewers, streamers and, well, pirates. In its second year, the show's viewership has risen by quite a margin, so it's no wonder that late last week the network announced it will be back for not one, but two more seasons. If you're a fan, rest easy. This one will be around for a while.

The Last Ship (TNT) Sunday, 9 p.m. - "The Scott Effect" and "Rising Sun"

Season premiere! - From the moment it debuted in 2014, The Last Ship proved itself to be a ratings juggernaut for TNT. It's remained one of the most popular summer series on cable, and this week it's back for another season of high-concept thriller fun, continuing the tradition of success the network's already had with hits like Falling Skies. In the beginning, I questioned whether a show with this kind of premise could sustain itself. Now the question isn't if, but for how long. As this season begins, the crew works to deliver a cure, while a new mutation of the Red Flu emerges. Check out a preview below.

Ride with Norman Reedus (AMC) Sunday, 10 p.m. - "California: Pacific Coast Highway"

Series premiere! - Yeah, this isn't a genre series, but it's a very light TV week, and pretty much all genre fans love The Walking Dead star Norman Reedus, right? In this new unscripted series, Reedus puts his love of motorcycles and all things horsepower to good use as he travels around the country and basically has fun with various vehicles. It's part travel documentary, part bike porn, and all fun. So, if you're a big Daryl Dixon fan, this might help tide you over until The Walking Dead is back in the fall. Check out a preview below.
