This newsreel trailer is the closest we'll get to seeing Peggy Carter as Captain America

This year, Marvel is celebrating Captain America’s 75th anniversary and, as part of these celebrations, Marvel’s game division will be adding six new variations of the Super Soldier.

One of those variations will be Peggy Carter, who’ll be picking up the shield as the new Captain America in Marvel Puzzle Quest, and we have a very cool 1940s-style newsreel trailer featuring Peggy as the star-spangled hero.

In case you’re wondering, yep! This version of Peggy Carter will be the one from Marvel’s Agent Carter, where Peggy is played by Hayley Atwell. Here’s what the mobile game’s character description says:

“In a world where Steve Rogers was assassinated before he could become Captain America, Peggy Carter joined the Super Soldier Program in his place. A former field agent, Peggy combined the powers of the Super Soldier serum with her top-notch combat training, defending the ideals of freedom and equality as that world’s Captain America.”

Marvel Games Creative Director Bill Rosemann said in an earlier interview:

“They had the idea of, what if Steve Rogers was actually assassinated at the moment he was going to receive the super-soldier serum? And what if Peggy Carter instead took a step forward, and she joins the Super-Soldier Program in his place? And now Peggy Carter that people will know from the 'Agent Carter' TV show, she becomes Captain America. In Marvel Publishing, we've seen Bucky Barnes -- the Winter Soldier -- take up the shield for Steve Rogers. Currently, Sam Wilson -- Falcon -- has taken the shield and he's become Captain America. So I think now seeing Peggy Carter putting her own spin and what it means to be Captain America, I think it's a very inspiring, visual story.”
