CONFIRMED: Darth Vader to return for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

We’d heard rumblings that a certain Sith Lord would make his hotly anticipated return in director Gareth Edwards’ Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, but now, we finally have confirmation that one of cinema's most iconic movie villains will indeed be back for the new film set in a galaxy far, far away.

According to Entertainment Weekly’s upcoming cover story on the Star Wars standalone movie, “Darth Vader Is Back!” to threaten our new group of rebel fighters alongside Ben Mendelsohn’s Imperial Director Krennic, who, we're told, is an “ambitious officer, who’s eager to earn the favor of the Emperor – and avoid the wrath of his black-masked enforcer.”

There are no details as to Vader’s storyline in the movie yet, besides that little bit there (I'm guessing we'll know more when the magazine hits newstands on Friday), but I’m hoping he’ll get the chance to Force choke the life out of someone. Fingers crossed it'll be Krennic. Check out EW's Rogue One magazine cover:

The article also confirms that Mads Mikkelsen is playing main character Jyn Erso’s (Felicity Jones) father, Galen Erso -- a “scientist whose knowledge is sought by both sides.” As for Alan Tudyk yep, the Firefly actor is playing a droid via mo-cap, just as he did for I, Robot.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story takes place before the events of A New Hope and recounts the tale of how a group of daring Rebels managed to steal the plans for the Death Star. The movie is slated to open on Dec. 16. Are you looking forward to Darth Vader's return?
