Hyrule is in ruin as Link returns in stunning trailer for Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Nintendo has been hard at work on a new Legend of Zelda game for a while, and now we finally have our first look at Breath of the Wild. It looks like it could be worth the wait.

The game, which will be available on the WiiU and Nintendo’s next console the NX, will thrust Link into an adventure of discovery and exploration in what is being called a boundary-breaking entry in the series. The first trailer is positively stunning, showing off the upgraded cel-shading technique that has made the past few entries look so amazing. It looks like the game will visit several different environments, with grassy fields, snowy mountain peaks and lush forests.

Little is known about the story, but Nintendo has confirmed Breath of Wild will task Lin with figuring out what has become of the ruined kingdom of Hyrule. The explorable world on display is reportedly 12 times the size of Twilight Princess, and early buzz from E3 is extremely positive.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is set for release in 2017.
