Warp full speed ahead into this first Star Trek: Bridge Crew trailer

Ubisoft’s Red Storm division has unveiled a first official look at the upcoming virtual-reality game Star Trek: Bridge Crew during last night’s E3 panel.

The video features Star Trek alums LeVar Burton (Star Trek: The Next Generation), Jeri Ryan (Star Trek: Voyager) and Karl Urban (2009’s Star Trek) getting immersed in a mission by using the Oculus Rift and Oculus Touch controllers -- and obviously having a ton of fun while doing so. The upcoming title sees you and three of your friends playing as members of a new Federation starship crew, where you’ll have to work together to pilot the ship by assuming different bridge positions in the multiplayer game, including captain, engineer and tactical.

Let's have a look:

The new Star Trek game will be set in J.J. Abrams’ rebooted, alternate-timeline movie universe kicked off in 2009. Here's an official description of the game:

Star Trek: Bridge Crew puts you and your friends in the heart of a starship, where – as officers of the Federation – every action and decision you make together will determine the fate of your ship and crew. Developed specifically for VR, Star Trek: Bridge Crew is the only game to offer a true-to-life level of immersion in the Star Trek universe.

In Star Trek: Bridge Crew, the Federation dispatches you and your crew to command a new vessel U.S.S. Aegis as part of a critical initiative. Your mission: explore a largely uncharted sector of space known as The Trench, in hopes of locating a suitable new home world for the decimated Vulcan populace. The Trench contains stunning beauty and undiscovered wonders, but also strange anomalies and dangers yet unknown. The Klingon Empire is also active in the region, and their purpose is undoubtedly a threat to the Federation’s plans. It’s up to you and your crew to chart the sector to determine the Klingon’s aims, and to secure a peaceful Federation presence.

Star Trek: Bridge Crew will be available on all VR platforms in the fall of 2016.
