Kevin Feige says Marvel is 'committing' to making a Black Widow solo movie

With Ant-Man and the Wasp coming our way in 2018, and Captain Marvel in 2019, Marvel is finally starting to feature strong female characters as main leads in their comic book movies. But what about the badass female superhero that started it all?

It’s no secret everyone’s counting the days until Marvel Studios announces a Black Widow solo movie starring Scarlett Johansson in the titular role. Fans have been particularly vocal in their desire to see it happening sooner rather than later. Heck, she’s been in five Marvel movies already, starting with Iron Man 2. It's about high time she gets her solo adventure, right? Right.

But what does Marvel say? In a recent Q&A with Deadline, Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige opened up on a possible Black Widow film.

“We’ve announced the next nine movies, ten counting Civil War, through the end of 2019. Where we go beyond that are ongoing discussions that we’ll focus on in the next few years because we have a lot to do before then. Of the characters that you’ve just mentioned [Falcon, War Machine, Black Widow and Hawkeye] I would say certainly the one creatively and emotionally that we are most committing to doing is black widow.”

Feige then went on to explain why he thinks former Soviet assassin turned S.H.I.E.L.D. agent and Avenger Natasha Romanoff would be a great character to focus a movie on. And it's really a no-brainer.

“We think she’s an amazing character. We think Scarlett Johansson’s portrayal of her is amazing. She’s a lead Avenger and has amazing stories in her own right to tell that we think would be fun to turn into a standalone franchise.”

Make it so, Marvel! What do you think?
