Image of the Day: Mind-Numbing Neon Nebula

The European Southern Observatory's (ESO) Very Large Telescope (VLT) captured this breathtaking image of a colorful emission nebula known as LHA 120-N55, with light from a bounty of blue stars energizing the glowing cosmic gas remaining from the chaotic cauldron of stars’ recent formation.   Located in the Large Magellanic Cloud 163,000 light-years from Earth near the constellation Dorado, this eye-catching shot of an electrifying emission nebula is another example of the amazing advances in astronomy and science being witnessed from our humble planet spinning in a quiet corner of the universe.  Have a look and tell us if you agree ...
