Hyperloop company to make its high-speed pods out of Vibranium (for real)

Developing an ultra-fast Hyperloop transportation system is shaping up to be the holy grail of public transit in the future, and Hyperloop Transportation Technologies is trying to generate some buzz for its take on the speed train. So they’re turning to comics for a bit of help.

According to The Verge, HTT has announced plans to use a new carbon fiber called Vibranium, obviously named after the famed Marvel Comics metal best known as the stuff that makes up Captain America’s shield. Though HTT's Vibranium will be tough, it’s probably not quite as indestructible as the fictional stuff coming out of Wakanda. HTT's Vibranium will be a new type of sensor-embedded carbon fiber used to make the company’s transit capsules, because you’re going to need something pretty strong when it’s blasting at 750+ mph through a high-pressure tube.

"What we are showing is, in part, this smart material which transmits without power integral stability and other values wirelessly," HTT CEO Dirk Ahlborn told The Verge. ”Safety is the most important aspect. So the construction is done with [two] layers of Vibranium ... Guaranteeing absolute safety. Should one fail, [we] would we have another layer that guarantees that the passenger can be brought to safety."

The Vibranium coming from HTT is said to be "eight times stronger than aluminum and 10 times stronger than steel alternatives,” and includes built-in sensors that can send "critical information regarding temperature, stability, integrity and more, wirelessly and instantly.”

If you’re unfamiliar with Hyperloop tech, here’s the gist: It works by incorporating reduced-pressure tubes with pressurized capsules (for people, freight, etc.) that ride on an air cushion driven by linear induction motors and air compressors. With such little resistance, the pods are able to travel insanely fast.
