TV THIS WEEK: Preacher premieres, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s finale, and more!

We're at the very tail end of the standard broadcast TV season, which means we have a number of finales this week, including Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.Grimm and The Originals, but there's really only one star of the show this week: the premiere of Preacher. Yes, it's finally time for the iconic comic book series to hit the small screen. That happens Sunday, but there's plenty more to get excited about on TV this week.

Check out the week in TV below. What's on your watchlist?

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (ABC) Tuesday 9 p.m. - "Absolution/Ascension"

Season finale! - It's already been revealed that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will return for a fourth season in the fall, which is very good news for many fans who didn't even think it would get a second. Over the past two years the show has evolved significantly from a kind of superspy procedural into a mesh of spying and superheroics, introducing the Inhumans to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and developing a plethora of enemies. This week, the team ends its season with a full-blown showdown with Hive. The question now is: Where does it go after that? Check out a preview below.

Genius by Stephen Hawking (PBS) Wednesday, 9 p.m. - "Can We Time Travel?" and "Are We Alone?"

Series premiere! - Stephen Hawking has long been known as one of the great scientific minds of our time, and this week he puts his knowledge to work in a brand-new series that challenges a group of volunteers to ponder the great questions of the universe. Hawking has, of course, pondered these questions for decades on his own, but now it's time for someone else to attempt to figure out if he's right. The first two episodes will focus on time travel and the possibility of alien life, and this looks to be a fascinating experiment.

Legends of Tomorrow (CW) Thursday, 8 p.m. - "Legendary"

Season finale! - Legends of Tomorrow entered this TV season as perhaps the most ambitious superhero show ever to hit television, a team-up sci-fi adventure starring a set of minor heroes who'd mostly played second fiddle on other shows. Like Arrow and The Flash before it, though, it turned out to be a hit, and The CW has already ordered Season 2. Now we get to see what happens as the group suffers a sort of semi-breakup in the aftermath of their recent tragedies. Check out a preview below.

The 100 (CW) Thursday, 9 p.m. - "Perverse Instantiation - Part 2"

Season finale! - The 100 has had a very controversial season thanks to a certain character death that sent shockwaves through its fandom and cost it more than a few viewers, but it nevertheless survives for another year. The show stirred up a massive discussion about the importance of character diversity and how diverse characters are treated on broadcast television, and it will get a chance to further explore those themes with another season next fall. For now, our heroes are set for a showdown. Check out a preview below.

Preacher (AMC) Sunday, 10 p.m. - "Pilot"

Series premiere! - And now, the moment you've all been waiting for. After successfully bringing The Walking Dead to the screen, AMC has turned its attention to the iconic Preacher, the acclaimed comics series by writer Garth Ennis and artist Steve Dillon. Under the guidance of executive producers (and huge fans) Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, this series will document the travails of preacher-turned-outlaw Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper) as he attempts to come to terms with godlike powers and a moral landscape that's far muddier than anyone could imagine. The early trailers look very promising, so hopefully we'll get all of the brutality and brilliance the comic had to offer in TV form. Check out a preview below.
