Here's the latest on the long-gestating Uncharted, The Last of Us film adaptations

Video game developer Naughty Dog has two major franchises in its creative coffers, and film versions for both have been in the works for years. So, what’s the latest on Uncharted and Last of Us?

Work has been starting and stopping for years on a film version of Uncharted, which seems ripe to blow up the box office as a modern-day spin on Indiana Jones. Well, Naughty Dog’s game director, Neil Druckmann, reveals the Uncharted script is still in the development stage, as the studio has yet to nail down a version they’re comfortable actually producing. As for Naughty Dog’s involvement, Druckmann said they’re consulting to make sure they don’t ruin the essence of the games.

Here's an excerpt from what he said to IGN:

"Every once in a while they'll come in and they'll present to us: here's the script, here's what we're thinking. We'll tell them what we think works, what we think doesn't work. That’s where we're at. Last I heard is they got a new screenwriter, but we haven't seen anything in a while. Our approach is just to steer them back to those relationships. The most important part to get right is Nathan Drake, Nathan Drake's relationship with Elena and Nathan Drake's relationship with Sullivan. If you don't get that right, I don't think the film's going to work. If you get that core right, there's a chance it could work."

No news might be good-ish news for Uncharted, but it’s not looking good for Last of Us. Druckmann, who also wrote the script for Last of Us, said it has basically drifted into “development hell.” Even worse? He said there hasn’t been any work done in over a year and a half. Ouch.

Of the two, which project would you like to see finally make it to the big screen?
