Gruesome new Batman v Superman concept art reveals alternate Doomsday designs

The silver screen representation of Lex Luthor's Kryptonian abomination, Doomsday, in Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was somewhat underwhelming for me, recalling a lumbering, second-rate cave troll left over from the Lord of the Rings franchise a decade ago.

These newly-revealed, pre-production art images from concept artist and illustrator Vance Kovacs (Godzilla, Thor, Snow White and The Huntsman) are infinitely more intriguing, with a Frazetta-like feel and a truly horrific appearance akin to hell creatures seen lurking on vintage covers of Creepy and Eerie magazines of the '70s.

Another possible inspiration for Kovacs may have been the classic 1957 monster movie, The Amazing Colossal Man, with the Glenn Manning character accidentally caught in a plutonium bomb blast and transformed into a rampaging, mutated goliath.

Have a look at these alternate concept designs for the dreaded Doomsday in the gallery below and tell us if you like these imaginings more.
