TV THIS WEEK: Game of Thrones returns, Supergirl's finale, and more!

We're still in the middle of an interesting midseason shuffle. Shows from the fall are departing, and shows from the spring are arriving, but there's obviously one big story this week: the return of Game of Thrones, and the answers it hopefully brings. Plus, Supergirl ends its first season, 12 Monkeys returns, and more!

Check out the week in TV below. What's on your watchlist?

Supergirl (CBS) Monday, 8 p.m. - "Better Angels"

Season finale! - This week, we come to the end of the first season of Supergirl in an uncertain position, because we still don't know if the show will emerge with Season 2. After a debut that brought in nearly 13 million live viewers, the acclaimed series slipped into a zone of around 7 million live viewers weekly, which isn't bad at all, but it has meant CBS seems to be holding off on a renewal decision. Does that mean the show's in danger? I really doubt it. It's still performing well, and it brings a younger audience to a network that often skews older. We'll probably see a Season 2 announcement in the weeks and months to come. In the meantime, get ready for Kara to risk her life to save the whole planet. Check out a preview below.

12 Monkeys (Syfy) Monday, 9 p.m. - "Year of the Monkey"

Season premiere! - Last year, 12 Monkeys went from a "Could this actually work?" remake to one of the most acclaimed genre shows on TV, charming critics and viewers alike with its ambitious take on the classic time-travel story. Now we get to ask another crucial question of this series: Can a serialized drama adapted from a feature film continue to sustain its storytelling into a second year? Early reviews are good and hopes are high, so let's find out. Check out a preview below.

Containment (CW) Tuesday, 9 p.m. - "Pilot"

Series premiere! - The CW's had a lot of success with genre dramas over the past few years, from Arrow to The Vampire Diaries, and now they're trying their hand at the classic outbreak scenario with Containment, an adaptation of a Belgian series by Vampire Diaries and The Originals writer Julie Plec and The Flash director David Nutter. The series focuses on an outbreak in Atlanta and the quarantine drama that follows, and while that's certainly well-trod territory, this creative team just might find something fresh there. Check out a preview below.

Fear the Walking Dead (AMC) Sunday, 9 p.m. - "Ouroboros"

Fear the Walking Dead doesn't have quite the audience boom that its parent series does, but that doesn't mean AMC isn't satisfied with it. After delivering nearly 9 million total viewers (5 million of them in the key 18-49 demo) with its Season 2 premiere, the drama was renewed for a third year by AMC, and given a boosted episode order of 16 for Season 3. Plus, Chris Hardwick will return to host Talking Dead following every episode. It doesn't have the same critical and commerical oomph of its predecessor, but Fear is the second-most-watched cable show of the year right now (behind, you guessed it, The Walking Dead), so AMC wants to keep it around. Check out a preview of this week's episode below.

Game of Thrones (HBO) Sunday, 9 p.m. - "The Red Woman"

Season premiere! - At long last, we get to return to Westeros this Sunday with an episode so secretive that even TV critics aren't getting an early look at it. Last season left us with plenty of questions. Where does the real power in the North lie now? What will Sansa do to reclaim her agency? What will happen to Arya? How will the Lannisters and Tyrells recover their influence in King's Landing? Where is Daenerys headed next? And, most importantly, what's going on with Jon Snow? I doubt that all will be revealed in one episode, but we're finally getting at least a few answers, and HBO will probably get a hefty ratings boost along the way. Check out a preview of the season below.
