Spider-Man: Homecoming adds two more actors to its cast

The cast of Spider-Man: Homecoming is slowly coming together with the addition of Laura Harrier (One Life to Live) and Tony Revolori (The Grand Budapest Hotel, The 5th Wave) in the roles of Peter Parker’s (Tom Holland) high-school classmates.

According to a report over at Deadline, Laura Harrier has nabbed a “significant role” in the Marvel and Sony superhero film -- with Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige and Sony's Amy Pascal producing -- but there’s no news as to which comic-book character the actress will play.

As for Tony Revolori, the reports are slightly contradictory. While Deadline claims the young actor will play Peter Parker’s nemesis/enemy at high school -- who isn’t a supervillain (Flash Thompson!), The Wrap says Revolori will play a character named Manuel (so no Flash Thompson), who's Peter’s friend.

As for Harrier’s character, the online buzz is that she could either be playing Mary Jane Watson or Gwen Stacy, but I'm not completely sold on that. If that were the case, I don’t think Marvel and Sony would be keeping that kind of casting news under wraps. But hey, I could be completely wrong!

Harrier and Revolori will join an ensemble that currently includes Tom Holland as the new webhead (the young actor has been getting positive reviews as the as the best Peter Parker/Spidey yet thanks to his role in Captain America: Civil War) , Marisa Tomei as Aunt May and Zendaya as a mysterious character named Michelle. As for the movie’s Big Bad, former Batman Michael Keaton is currently in talks to star in Homecoming as the movie’s villain, who may or may not be the Vulture.

Directed by Jon Watts (Cop Car), from a screenplay written by John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, Spider-Man: Homecoming will focus on the webslinger’s high-school days, and it’s said the writers have infused the spirit of all those John Hughes classic high-school films (Ferris Bueller’s Day Off for the win!) in the superhero movie.

Do you guys think Laura Harrier has come on board the comic-book movie in a “significant role” as either Gwen Stacy or Mary Jane Watson? What do you think of Tony Revolori joining the cast?

Spider-Man: Homecoming will open July 7, 2017.
