Mark Rylance to reunite with Steven Spielberg on Ready Player One

Director Steven Spielberg is set to reunite with Oscar-winning actor Mark Rylance (Bridge of Spies) for his upcoming sci-fi movie, Ready Player One.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Rylance is in final negotiations to co-star in the Warner Bros. film based on Ernest Cline’s 2011 best-selling and award-winning dystopian sci-fi novel. Rylance will join a cast that so far includes Tye Sheridan (X-Men: Apocalypse), Olivia Cooke (Bates Motel), Ben Mendelsohn (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) and Star Trek’s Simon Pegg. Not a bad cast, right? Filming on the movie should begin in June.

Ready Player One is set in a virtual world called the OASIS where teenager Wade Owen Watts/Parzival (Sheridan) finds himself competing against other ruthless players in a deadly treasure when the game's founder dies and offers his fortune as well the power to control OASIS as the final prize -- Rylance will play the creator of OASIS, James Donovan Halliday, who is described as an “enigmatic figure with shades of Howard Hughes and Steve Jobs.” Pegg is set to play the co-creator of OASIS, Ogden Morrow.

What do you think of the casting of Mark Rylance as James Donovan Halliday in Ready Player One? The movie will open in movie theaters on March 30, 2018.
