CBS renews Supergirl for a high-flying second season

Looks like CBS’ Supergirl will keep on saving the good folks of National City in Season 2.

According to Deadline, CEO Les Moonves made the announcement earlier this morning to the Deutsche Bank Media, Internet & Telecom Conference. Moonves said the plan was to renew all five freshman series that were introduced this season; that'd include Supergirl.

Now, nothing is official yet, but look for a confirmation to make its way online pretty soon.

Starring Melissa Benoist as Kara Zor-El/Danvers, Superman’s cousin, the DC Comics superhero series premiered on Oct. 26 to strong ratings; with a Kryptonian force of 12.96 million viewers (that’s total), but the audience has since dwindled to almost half that number, with the Feb. 29 episode attracting only 6.69 million viewers. Still, reasonable numbers, and the show has been generally well received by critics.

Some also believe The Flash’s Grant Gustin’s highly anticipated cameo appearance as the Scarlet Speedster on an upcoming episode of Supergirl (thank you, Greg Berlanti!) was done with the intention that the CBS show would be getting a second season. Does that mean more crossover goodness with The CW's Arrowverse come next season? One can always live in hope.

What do you think? Are you looking forward to a second season of Supergirl?
