J.K. Rowling's new stories to act as primer for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

J.K. Rowling fans, rejoice. You’re going to be getting new Harry Potter matter in a matter of hours. Pottermore, the repository for all things Rowling-verse, will be releasing four new short stories about the expanded Wizarding World. The first part of the first story will hit the Internet on March 8, 2 PM GMT— which means Americans will getting a new adventure at 9 AM EST.

Rowling’s four stories are part of her “Magic in North America” series, in which we can expect to learn about the American equivalent to Hogwarts, Ilvermorny. We’ll also be learning about Skin Walkers, as well as the Witch trials and the Magical Congress of the United States of America.

And it seems that they will all play a part in the upcoming movie, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. According to Pottermore, “Magic in North America will bring to light the history of this previously unexplored corner of the wizarding world in the run up to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. And you’ll want to get up to speed before the film comes around in November.”

In other words, these stories are semi-required reading for the film, which will be released on November 18.

We can’t expect our old friends Harry, Ron, and Hermione to appear. But since this takes place in their past, we can imagine that this is part of their history. And perhaps even they have read “Magic in North America” already.
