Netflix's new Voltron: Legendary Defender series forms a first explosive teaser trailer

“Form feet and legs. Form arms and body. And I'll form the head!” The first teaser trailer for the Voltron reboot forming Voltron: Legendary Defender has been unleashed over the weekend, following its presentation at WonderCon. Oh, and the quote is from the original series, not the teaser trailer.

Hailing from the good folks over at Netflix and DreamWorks Animation, the hotly anticipated 13-episode limited animated series is set to premiere on June 10 on the streaming service and features the voice acting talents of Steven Yeun, Josh Keaton, Bex Taylor-Klaus, Jeremy Shada and Tyler Labine.

The original anime series titled Voltron: Defender of the Universe ran for three seasons between 1984 and 1985 and featured the adventures of Keith, Lance, Hunk, Pidge and Shiro, five Earth teenagers piloting five robotic lions forming together to become the formidable Voltron. They were the last line of defense for Arus and other planets in an intergalactic battle against big bad villain King Zarkon and his alien force.

In Voltron: Legendary Defender, Steven Yeun voices Voltron Force leader Keith, Jeremy Shada is Lance, Tyler Labine voices Hunk, Bex Taylor-Klaus will be Pidge and Josh Keaton, Shiro.

Co-executive producer Lauren Montgomery told USA Today about the new series (which is described by the site as having an epic Game of Thrones feel, but with some humor): “We’re trying to keep as much of that classic feel to it as we can, because ultimately we have huge amounts of nostalgia for (the original) show.”

Executive producer Joaquim Dos Santos added that the new TV show will feature “a true sense of epic adventure” with “the campy nature of five lions that become a giant robot.” He also mentioned that, contrary to the original series, the main characters will have backstories and “a real purpose for being on this mission and getting involved with Voltron in the first place,” adding, “Voltron is nowhere near the scale of a Star Wars in terms of mythology, but it has managed to stick around in pop culture and became this representation of teamwork.”

Are you looking forward to Voltron: Legendary Defender?
