Last year, as part of Disney's overall strategy to re-engineer Star Wars storytelling, Marvel Comics once again assumed control of publishing Star Wars comics, giving us everything from a main series to a Darth Vader book to a series focusing on Star Wars Rebels favorite Kanan. These Star Wars books are explicitly tied into the same continuity as the films, the new novels, and every other piece of the franchise Disney plans to release going forward, which has made them not only an important part of the grand storytelling scheme so far, but also a massive success for Marvel.
As you probably know if you're a regular reader of sites like this, May the 4th has been designated by fans as "Star Wars Day," thanks to the delicious pun that comes from "May the Fourth be With You," and this year that date just happens to fall on a Wednesday, the day new comic books are traditionally released. So, to capitalize on this happy coincidence, Marvel is using their popular "True Believers" line to offer readers a look at all of their Star Wars first issues for just $1 each.
So, if you're heading into comics shops on May 4th, there's a good chance you'll find first issue of everything from the main Star Wars series (which I highly recommend) to Chewbacca to Lando, and even the classic non-canon Star Wars series, at an insanely low price, giving you the chance to jump onto the series and get a jump on some of the Star Wars continuity you might have been missing. Between that and Free Comic Book Day on May 7th, it's a week of bargains at your local shop.
So, if you've been waiting for your Star Wars comics fix, Star Wars Day seems to be your time.
