Rumor of the Day: Daisy Ridley being eyed for the role of Lara Croft in the new Tomb Raider

Although it’s very early days, there’s a rumor making the rounds that Daisy Ridley (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) is in the running to play Lara Croft in the planned Tomb Raider reboot.

According to Deadline, Ridley is one in a number of actresses the Warner Bros and MGM action-adventure movie are currently considering. The role of the Indiana Jones/Allan Quartermain-inspired kick-ass English archaeologist was played by Angelina Jolie in the previous two Tomb Raider movies: Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001) and its sequel, Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life (2003).

It seems that there were talks between Ridley — or at the very least Ridley’s people — and the Tomb Raider powers-that-be but that there haven’t been any official negotiations or offer made yet. They also claim that the producers are keeping their options open for the role which will no doubt attract a boatload of fresh-faced young actresses.

Daisy Ridley is currently filming Star Wars: Episode VIII which has a release date of Dec. 15, 2017 while the Tomb Raider movie will come out sometime in 2017. If she ends up nabbing the role of Lara Croft, it’s possible for her to film Tomb Raider when Episode VIII wraps before shooting starts on Star Wars: Episode IX (assuming Rey is also in that movie). But will she want to star in another big movie franchise (If it were me, I'd say YEAH!)?

The video game adaptation is set to be helmed by Norwegian filmmaker Roar Uthaug, who recently confirmed the movie would be a new origin story based on the 2013 Square Enix rebooted game.

Would you like to see Daisy Ridley as Lara Croft? If not, who do you think would be the perfect choice for the role?
