Ronda Rousey's dream role is to play Samus in long-rumored Metroid film

Along with her (mostly) successful career of kicking butt in the octagon, MMA fighter Ronda Rousey is also expanding her repertoire to include some film roles. Her dream gig? Playing Samus in a live-action Metroid film.

Yes, please?

The tidbit came up in a chat with GameSpot, while Rousey was discussing her recent mo-cap work for EA Sports UFC 2, as well as her newfound obsession with playing World of Warcraft (she plays as a Night Elf Hunter and Blood Elf Rogue, for those who care). She’s already popped up on the big screen in films like Fast & Furious 7 and Expandables 3, though her dream gig is to combine her love of acting and video games as the titular character in Metroid.

Here’s the choice quote:

“I've always wanted to be Samus. That would be badass. I love how people found out later that it was a hot chick on the inside. And then most of the day you're in a suit, so you can just hang out and eat donuts and be the star of Metroid. I hope they make a movie out of that.”

So, what are the odds we’ll ever even get a Metroid film? Not great, at least not at the moment. Various attempts at film adaptations for the hit sci-fi action series have been in the works since 2003, with the latest attempt hitting the skids in 2007. That script was written by David Greenwalt (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), with action legend John Woo attached to direct.

In the wake of the epic failure that was the live-action Mario movie, Nintendo has been notoriously stingy with its intellectual property — and it seems that caution is what eventually derailed Metroid. But the time are a-changin', and it’s hard to argue against Rousey for the role.

Who knows — stranger things have happened.
