David Tennant, Matt Smith take Manhattan for a day of the Doctor event

Two Doctors will be materializing in the Big Apple this April. Wizard World comic con organizers announced today that Doctor Who actors David Tennant and Matt Smith would be appearing together for a Day of the Doctors NYC event.

To be held April 16, 2016, at Manhattan’s PlayStation Theater, Wizard World’s “The Doctors” marks the first time Tennant and Smith, who played the Tenth and Eleventh Doctors, respectively, will appear at the same fan event together.

According to a press release, Wizard World Inc. CEO John Macaluso said, “Our fans have been clamoring to see David Tennant and Matt Smith, two of our most popular guests, together, and Wizard World is proud to have brought them to this unique event.”

Although details are still emerging, Wizard World has stated that fans will be able to purchase “Dual VIPs, which include a photo op with both Tennant and Smith along with an autograph from each and guaranteed attendance for two at their interactive Q&A panel.” Additionally, solo VIPs will be available for a single photo opportunity with either Doctor, with one autograph and Q&A admission for one. Tickets range from $150 to $850.

Presumably, in addition to the Q&A with the two Doctors, there will be Doctor Who and genre programming for fans to engage, and interact with expert nerds about their favorite topics. Though that remains speculation. [Disclosure: The author has previously been hired as a speaker/moderator for Wizard World events.]

Of course David Tennant began his tenure as the Tenth Doctor on the long-running British series beginning in June 2005, taking over for predecessor Christopher Eccleston. Following his departure in 2010, Matt Smith took over the role as the Time Lord until December 2013. However, the two fan favorites shared the screen in the acclaimed 50th-anniversary special, "The Day of the Doctor," which aired in November 2013.

Beyond Doctor Who, the two have racked up impressive genre credentials. Tennant was recently lauded as Kilgrave in Marvel’s Jessica Jones Netflix series, but also made a mark in the Harry Potter films as Barty Crouch Jr. and has lent his voice to Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the How to Train Your Dragon audiobooks and will be voicing the Doctor once more in three new Big Finish audiobooks. Meanwhile, Smith appeared in Terminator Genisys and can currently be seen on screen in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. He also recently wrapped filming on the upcoming fantasy-horror flick Patient Zero.

Will you be there when the TARDIS lands for New York City’s own Day of the Doctors?
