Michael Fassbender takes a Leap of Faith in latest Assassin’s Creed clips

As a massive fan and player of Ubisoft’s hit video game franchise Assassin’s Creed, it’s with a certain level of trepidation that I’m eagerly awaiting the release of the live-action adaptation starring Michael Fassbender.

The upcoming movie will introduce Fassbender in two roles: that of former death-row inmate Callum Lynch and his ancestor, a 15th-century Spanish Assassin named Aguilar, who fought against the big badTemplars during the Spanish Inquisition. Even though the movie will introduce brand-new characters and a new story, what’s awesome about the film is that it will be part of Ubisoft’s official Assassin’s Creed canon.

Ahead of the movie’s release later this month, 20th Century Fox has released two new exciting clips. The first one sees Michael Fassbender as both Aguilar and Callum Lynch. In the clip, Lynch is reliving the genetic memories of his ancestor, which takes him through an exhilarating chase scene that includes some cool parkour moves and the game’s trademark Leap of Faith. In the second clip titled “Cafeteria,” Callum makes a friend in Michael Kenneth Williams’ character (who is named Moussa), but it’s clear he also has some enemies at Abstergo.

Through a revolutionary technology that unlocks his genetic memories, Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) experiences the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. Callum discovers he is descended from a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organization in the present day.

Helmed by Justin Kurzel (who directed the X-Men actor in Macbeth), Assassin’s Creed also stars Marion Cotillard, Jeremy Irons, Ariane Labed, Brendan Gleeson, Charlotte Rampling, Michael Kenneth Williams and Callum Turner. The movie will take a leap of faith in theaters on Dec. 21.
