Game of Thrones actor cast as Steppenwolf in Justice League

We’ve known for a while that Steppenwolf would be the Big Bad the Justice League would go up against when the superhero team-up movie arrives on the big screen, but we’d yet to learn who would play the DC Comics villain.

Well, now we know. According to the good folks over at The Wrap, Game of Thrones actor Ciaran Hinds (he played Mance Rayder on the HBO fantasy series) will play the role of Steppenwolf in the Zack Snyder-directed film. The performance will be motion-captured (as Thanos was mo-capped by Josh Brolin in the Marvel Studios movies) and it looks like the actor has already wrapped filming his scenes.

The character was first introduced in a deleted scene from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (and I’ve included it below) and the site reports that his look will be upgraded (thank you!) from what we saw in that scene. In Justice League, Steppenwolf (who is related to Darkseid, the villain everyone is really hoping to see) will go after the Mother Boxes, and it’ll be up to our fledgling superhero team (which will include Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Cyborg and Aquaman) to stop him. Here’s what producer Charles Roven said about the role of the Mother Boxes in the movie:

“[Back] before there was a history … mankind, the Atlanteans — before they were under water — the Amazonians and, actually, the old gods, teamed together and decided that — based on an event that happened — these mother boxes were going to be placed in the care of, as I say, the Amazonians, mankind and the Atlanteans. So that allows us to get into some of those environments.”

What do you guys think of the casting of Ciaran Hinds as Steppenwolf in Justice League? The movie will open on Nov. 17, 2017.
