First clip from Assassin’s Creed puts Michael Fassbender in a tough spot

Twentieth Century Fox has unleashed the first clip from next month's Assassin’s Creed. The video game adaptation features Michael Fassbender pulling double duty as the unwilling guinea pig Callum Lynch and his 15th-century ancestor, Aguilar de Nerha. Meanwhile, Oscar winner Marion Cotillard’s character, Dr. Sophia Rikkin, is dead set on exploiting Callum’s connection to the past.

The clip is called “Enter the Animus,” the Animus being the device that connects present-day Callum to Aguilar. Judging from this scene, it’s clear he is NOT a willing participant. Watch as Callum dives head-first into the unknown.

Official synopsis:

Through a revolutionary technology that unlocks his genetic memories, Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) experiences the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. Callum discovers he is descended from a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organization in the present day.

Assassin’s Creed opens in theaters Dec. 21.
