Watch: Everything you didn’t know about Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home

It’s been 30 years since Kirk, Spock and the rest of the Star Trek gang headed back to the modern day (circa the 1980s) to save the world with the help of some whales. But there might be a few things you don’t know about Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home.

To celebrate the anniversary, we take a deep dive into the history of the Trek classic, looking at everything from time-travel paradoxes (Kirk’s glasses still have us scratching our heads), to the clever cameo story behind that punk kid on the train. The Voyage Home might not be your favorite Trek film, but it still blazed more than a few trails. It introduced the first female Starfleet captain, and was also the first Trek film to be released in Russia.

It was also loaded with cameos, but the most notable is probably the one that didn’t happen, as Eddie Murphy’s role in the film fell through early in production. Oh, there’s also the fact that (literally) no one dies, and there’s not even any real fight scenes in the entire film. It’s just cool, collected, and quirky Trek.
