Marvel enlists VR artists to build gorgeous, trippy Doctor Strange alt-reality

We live in the age of burgeoning virtual reality, and all VR marketing tie-ins are not created equal. But if there was ever a film custom made for the technology, it’s Doctor Strange and its trippy visual style.

Marvel has teamed up with RealD 3D to create some legit Doctor Strange magic via VR, designed to re-create the look of the magic and mystical realms overlaid with reality. The company enlisted three Google Tilt Brush artists (Stuart Campbell, Steve Teeple and Danny Bittman) to create these environments, which are placed in New York, London and Hong Kong. It’s insanely trippy and positively gorgeous.

Sure: When you get down to brass tacks, it’s little more than a stunning tech demo, but still. This is a testament to the potential this technology can hold in bringing the fantastic to life. If you happen to be in any of the cities mentioned above, track down the demo rig and dive into Doctor Strange’s weird world before you check out the movie this weekend.
