The past few seasons of Arrow have been drawing from a good bit of Batman’s lore, and now the series is finally introducing a heavy hitter from the Dark Knight’s canon. It’s finally time for Talia al Ghul.
The fifth season of Arrow will introduce Lexa Doig (Continuum, Stargate SG-1) as Ra’s al Ghul’s (Matt Nable) daughter Talia, a character with a long history in Batman’s world. Talia is described as an elite warrior who is both “worldly and cultured.” If you were paying close attention to Legends of Tomorrow, viewers recently met a younger version of Talia played by Milli Wilkinson in the past (gotta love that time travel).
We don’t know exactly how she’ll fit into the Arrow-verse, but it sounds like she’s definitely had different experiences than her half-sister Nyssa al Ghul (Katrina Law), who has had a recurring role the past few seasons. Nyssa was fairly naive coming into the wider world outside the League of Assassins, but it sounds like Talia will be more comfortable there.
Doig’s first appearance will be in the fifth season’s 10th episode, and she’s signed on to appear in multiple episodes.
Going back to the comic canon, Talia has deep ties to the League of Assassins and Bruce Wayne. The character was first introduced in the early 1970s, and she’s often been a recurring love interest for Batman. In a lot of stories, she’s typically torn between Batman and Ra’s, but yeah, we doubt that story arc will make it into the Arrow version. The character is also the mother of Bruce’s son Damian (the fifth Robin). The character of Talia was last portrayed by Marion Cotillard in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises.
What do you think of Talia joining Arrow? Does the show need another al Ghul?
