Preparing for its sixth film in more than 14 years, the Resident Evil franchise has defied convention for well over a decade — but it’s all about to come to an end.
We caught up with the cast and crew of Resident Evil: The Final Chapter at New York Comic Con to talk about the longevity of the series and why now is the right time to wrap it up. Director Paul W.S. Anderson said after two trilogies, he wanted to make sure they wrapped up the series on a high note with The Final Chapter. He said the story will be coming full circle for the franchise, as the Red Queen and the Hive come back into play from the first film.
You’d think star Milla Jovovich would’ve done just about everything possible when it comes to action and stunts at this point, but she said the franchise’s final entry has still found a way to push those boundaries (look out for the upside down fight!). She also promised a more kinetic, “gritty” style of action this time around. The trailer released yesterday gives a pretty good indication of that, as well.
Resident Evil: The Final Chapter opens Jan. 27, 2017.
